Welcome to Year 6 at Kea Community Primary School

2021 - 2022

(Arrivals after 8.55 - please sign in at the school office)

Finish time: 3.30

(Please collect your child from the car park)


Our P.E lessons are on Mondays and Thursdays.
Children are to come into school wearing their P.E kit on these days.
They can either wear their normal green school jumper/cardigan or their red hoodie should they wish.
As the weather gets colder, children might prefer to wear joggers or leggings (grey or black).  
Our Maths focus is:
Number - arithmetic consolidation and revision
Statistics, Geometry and shape
There is also a link to Hit the Button, a really useful way to practice your times tables.
Please encourage your child to log in to Times Tables Rock Stars as well to practice their tables.
Homework will be set on Fridays then collected in and marked on Thursdays.
Children may bring homework in earlier, if it is completed.
Homework club is available during Monday lunchtime for those who wish to attend. 
We are teaching RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) this year in a slightly different way to previous years.
We will be revising the Year 4 and 5 units first, then the Year 6 units.

Spring 1st half 2022 - 
Maps and Mapping / Voyage of the Mystery
This term we will be using our class novel 'Kensuke's Kingdom' to link to the learning we will be doing in class. We will link it to our diary writing in English, our mapping work in geography and our art work of Mount Fuji.

Autumn 2nd half 2021 -



This half-term our main topic is Islam. 

Our topic this half term is Islam and we will be looking at this religion which is over 1400 years old. We will learn about what Muslims believe in, about the 5 pillars of Islam and the festivals and special holy days which they celebrate. We will also learn about how Muslims live their life and how they worship. We will think about Muslims living across the world, including Cornwall and the U.K.


In Mathematics we will be recapping addition, subtraction and multiplication and extending our confidence with division.  Later on we will be mastering fractions. 


Our new class novel is Listen Layla by Yassmin Abdel-Magied 


We will be learning about stories from other cultures. 


In science we will be learning about light.  Later this term you will need to bring in a battery powered torch – we’ll let you know when.
