Topic Focus
Our humanities focus in KS2 for the rest of this half term is the Christian festival of Easter. We will be asking:
Why does Easter matter to Christians?
What did Jesus do and why is he so famous?
What is Palm Sunday and why is it celebrated?
Why do Christians call the day Jesus died Good Friday?

In maths we will consolidate our lockdown learning on division and begin learning about fractions.
In literacy we have a poetry focus and are going to be creative with words.

'Live' Christmas Workshop on Zoom with Steve from Kea Church.
Our amazing eco-friendly Christmas tree decorations.
Working hard at our writing.
Our Marble Treat - watching The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
We are very pleased with how our poppy pastels turned out. When we added the black outline the colours then 'popped' out. The consensus was that it was definitely worth the effort of trying to have no gaps in the colours.
Here are the results of our poll on where we like to read ...
Autumn 2 2020

Our first topic focus is Sikhism. We will look at religious stories that are still celebrated today and explore how they can help people to make the right choices. We will also look at how Sikhs practice their religious beliefs, places of worship, celebrations and religious symbols. Our second topic focus is the Christian Christmas.

In Literacy, our inspiration will come from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and we will be focusing on descriptive language and writing a first-person narrative around Lucy meeting Mr. Tumnus.

Our spellings for this half term are on our Year 4 Homework Page and each week there will be a new link to online games to help our class learn them at home. There will also be a link each week to online activities to help learn the Year 3 and 4 statutory spellings.

In Maths, our focus will be addition and subtraction and then area and perimeter.

In Science, we will finish our work on Animals Including Humans with a digestion experiment (we'll be making poo!). In a few weeks we'll start our new focus on States of Matter.

Do keep an eye on this page for photos of our work and please do get in touch via the school office if you would like to know more or if you have any questions or concerns.

The Apple Harvest
Watch our video and hear the amazing way Year 4 have written about harvesting apples ...
September has arrived and we are delighted to be welcoming you back to school and to Year 4.

Our topic is 'Tudors and Stuarts' and we have lots of exciting things planned for this term. Get ready to find out about King Henry VIII and his many wives, Queen Elizabeth I, The Spanish Armada, The Plague, The Gunpowder Plot and The Great Fire of London. Keep a look out on this page for pictures of our work!

Our PE will be on Mondays and Thursdays. Please bring in a pair of named plimsolls or trainers to stay in school for PE lessons. We will do PE in our school uniform so you do not need to bring in PE kit. Girls may choose to wear trousers, jogging bottoms or leggings to school (black or grey only) rather than skirts or pinafores on their PE day.
Literacy focus in autumn 1

The Queen's Token by Pamela Oldfield is our historical novel, with lots of opportunity for us to write about the characters and the Tudor Setting. The Spanish Armarda will inspire us to to recount the adventures of those on board the great ships.
Maths focus in autumn 1

In Maths we will focus on place value and then addition and subtraction. We'll also start the Year 4 adventure of learning all the times tables.
Times Tables

In Year 4 we have a big focus on learning all of our times tables up to 12x12. We'll start by going over the 2s, 5s and 10s which the children became familiar with in Year 2 and then recap the 4s and 8s which are a focus in Year 3. Then we'll learn the all  of the rest of them! We'll be using every spare moment to practice them - including when we're washing our hands.
We're looking forward to celebrating each other's birthdays and getting our bunting out. Everyone has made a birthday card and so we have a full class set ready.
