Summer 2

Who won the Space Race?

Students will explore the Earth, Sun, and Moon system, understanding how the Earth's rotation causes day and night and how the Moon orbits Earth. They compare Earth with other planets, such as Mars, noting differences in atmosphere and surface conditions. Additionally, they examine the effects of water resistance on moving objects and gather key information about other planets, enhancing their knowledge of the solar system.

Previous Topics:
Summer 1

How do forces work?

We will be learning about the Natural World comparing the differences between North America and the UK. We will learn about the human and physical features, climate zones as well as developing our atlas and map skills.
In Science we will understand the natural world making observations on the world around us. We will be learning about forces that need contact between two objects, but that magnetic forces act at distance. We will compare how things move on different surfaces.

Spring 2

What was it like to be Victorian?

We will be learning about the Victorian era; the differences between the lives of the rich and the poor, the reign of Queen Victoria and how Doctor Barnado changed the lives of poor children.

Why did the world go to war?

We will be learning about World War II. We will explore the causes and consequences of the War, key events of the war and learn about life in Britain during the war. In Science we will be learning about materials and how different properties of materials can be important for their uses.
Rescorla Topic Overview Spring term one - Why did the world go to war?.
Autumn 2

What did the Egyptians teach us?

We will be studying the ancient Egyptian Kingdom and the advances that they brought to the world, as well as amazing achievements like building the pyramids.  We will also use our science to learn about how humans change and age over time.
    Topic overview - Autumn 2.pdf
Autumn 1

Why is the world melting?

We will be studying how climate change is impacting on our planet and key areas this affects such as the polar regions.  We will also use our science focus on materials to investigate ways to survive in the Arctic.
    Topic overview - Autumn 1.pdf
  • This week we learned about transparent, translucent and opaque materials.
This week we learned about transparent, translucent and opaque materials.
  • We thought about how these properties can be useful and why a polar explorer might need different materials for different jobs.
