All children at Kea School from EYFS up to Year 6 have 'Relationships and Sex Education' lessons each year. Children are encouraged to develop skills of listening, empathy, talking about feelings and relationships with families and friends.
We follow the Christopher Winter Project resource ‘Teaching SRE with Confidence in Primary Schools’. This is a whole school scheme which is used by all teachers to provide thorough and safe RSE. The scheme reflects recent developments in both RSE and the Science National Curriculum and has been quality assured by the PSHE Association. It includes lessons on topics such as keeping clean, families, gender differences, personal space, puberty, relationships and many other topics.
Each year group develop the previous year’s learning:
Foundation: Our Lives
Year 1: Growing and Caring for Ourselves
Year 2: Differences
Year 3: Valuing Difference and Keeping Safe
Year 4: Growing Up
Year 5: Puberty
Year 6: Puberty and Reproduction
You can view the full scheme of work for each year group by following the links below. If you have any questions about this part of your child’s learning then please do contact their class teacher.
Odd Socks Day 2020
All children and staff were invited to take part in Odd Socks Day to help us launch anti-bullying week. Many fantastic and creative combinations of odd socks were spotted around school! This celebration of unique sock combinations has helped the children to discuss how we are all unique and different - just like everyone's combination of odd socks was unique and different- and that no one should be bullied or made fun of because of how they are different.
Years 2-6 received a very informative visit with Sam and Fraser from Perranporth RNLI station during our assembly. The children were given some very important messages about general beach safety, how to cope in the event of a rip tide and the 5 S's of sun safety: Slip, Slop, Slap, Slide, Shade.
Life Skills Workshop
Year 5 enjoyed learning how to stay safe in lots of different situations including: Safety around the home; keeping safe around trains, stations and crossings; internet safety; trading standards (including drug and alcohol awareness) and awareness of electric and sub-stations.
The messages and lessons they instilled will ensure the children keep safe and secure for the rest of their lives.
RECOVERY CURRICULUM 2020-2021
Our school wide approach to PSHE this year has been adapted in the light of Covid-19 to prioritise children’s mental health, well-being and their online safety along with (as age-appropriate) the statutory areas of RSE, drugs/alcohol/tobacco and money.
